To Paint or Not To Paint..............

OK, When I bought this cabinet, my intentions were to paint it white!
After it sat in our garage for a couple of months my sweet husband convinced me to bring it in and try it in our home for a while in it's original color....brown.
My husband is one of those guys that thinks it is very wrong to paint wood. But I love white and love painted furniture.
So, I'm am asking for your advise,.......Do I Paint or Do I stay with the Brown???

Please leave a comment and tell me what you think. I value your opinion! Thanks everyone for your help.

  1. If those are the dishes that you are going to display in the cabinet, I would leave it brown because those white dishes wouldn't show up as well in a white cabinet. At least I don't think so. I think that would be too much white. Beside the cabinet's finish is so nice just the way it is. Why fix something that looks so good? :)

  2. Paint it!

(But, I'm a cottage girl at heart....)

Maybe a pale, pale pink or blue. Pale..... Like white with just a hint of another color.

But, then again, I don't see the rest of the room and I have not too much experience in paint. You better get a better opinion. :)

  3. Hi Denise! Lu Lu Here I absolutely think you should paint it white. Is that chicken wire on each side? If so it would gorgeous against the white, adds texture and contrast. There are a few choice whites and creams you could do. The dishes would look stunning against it. White on white with a contrast of blue is gorgeous. Also, from what I can see your drapes are white with blue. I also recommend the shelf above the door to be painted white to. Can you send me some pic of your house so i could see the rest and get a feel if you are going in the write direction. Paint colors Benjamin Moore Simply White, Benjamin Moore Linen. And I have more colors. Let me know email me. Lulu

  5. I say PAINT it! a creamy white would look beautiful.{it looks rather dated in its current state, just being honest!}
you could always paint the inside back "wall" of the cabinet a pale, pale blue to show off your white dishes even more.
I have a dark coffee table and 2 end tables I am dying to get my hands on and change to white - but my husband is holding fast and still says no way! one of these days. . .
    good luck with this project!

  7. I have a husband who thinks the same way! It took me forever to convince him that sometimes a piece looks better painted. I too, feel that the cabinet looks very dated as it is. A couple coats of white paint will give it a fresh, clean look.If it's a second hand find that you bought by yourself, I think he should let you fulfill your vision!

  8. It really depends on the era or period of furniture. True 100 yr old or older antiques, I would say no. But on this I say Go For It Girl and paint it! Hubbies are always this way, I had a hard time convincing mine to even paint colors on the walls!

  9. I usually don't like to paint over a original finish but I do think this would look good painted a creamy white.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  11. Denise...I guess I can't be a member of the "cottage club" because I think it is so pretty just the way it is!! But...I will say...with the walls in that room the white will look great too! Thanks again for all you do for me!!
